Back Behind The Orchard Tree

Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) What does this album remind me of? Well, most notably, it's the late works of John Wetton, regarding both the sound of the vocals, as well as the kind of AOR-infused melodic prog he was recording from 1997 on, starting with "Arkangel". It's once again top-notch songwriting, yielding catchy melodies and smooth chord progressions, that caught my attention here. Favorite track: All We've Done.

Hear Me 04:30
Hear me – can you hear me Take my hand – I’ll lead you to the water To the water… Hear me – can you hear me All I am is who you used to be Hiding behind the orchard tree…
2.
When you’re looking at the boys – you never ever look at me I try to get you attention, but I guess I’m not your cup of tea Am I just invisible, or is it just the clothes I wear I want to feel your stockings - run my fingers through your hair… Am I just the invisible man…just the invisible man If I was invisible, I’d follow you down the street Walk on through your door, find out what food you eat Maybe you’d take a shower; maybe I’d avert my eyes Oh – but then the thought of water running down your thighs… Am I just the invisible man…just the invisible man And then you brushed by me, made my head spin But you didn’t see me, ‘cos you ‘don’t know where I’ve been’ Am I just invisible, or is it just the clothes I wear I want to feel your stockings - run my fingers through your hair… I cannot see you anymore… I cannot see you anymore

Phoenix 05:44
As the plane of my history comes crashing to the ground The guilt which condemned me uttered not a sound As Joy and Misery held hands like lovers – ever patient I waited for my pain to take me to the next station As the hills went by me, like milestones in my life I remembered my river before it ran dry But clouds descended over the mountain peaks I remembered my loved ones – words…I could not speak… Like a phoenix from the ashes – I will rise Like a fighter on the floor, I will stand up - I will surprise Find the innocence of my childhood – that twinkle in my eyes I will catch my spirit – throw it to the skies As the plane of my future goes soaring to the sky I still remember those days gone by But now I’ve turned the corner And can see the light ahead The journey I have travelled to my future has now led Like a phoenix from the ashes – I’m alive Like that fighter on the floor - I survived Found the innocence of my childhood – that twinkle in my eyes I have caught my spirit – thrown it to the skies Catch my spirit…

Hero 04:36
Although I know it’s never easy And I know life gets you down Although I know you’re getting weary And doubt hangs in the air… I’ll be your hero; I’ll be your clown I’ll pick up you up when you’re feeling down I’ll be your comfort when you’re in pain I’ll keep you warm sheltered from the rain If you could see how much I love you If you could feel my tender touch If you could hear my gentle whisper There’d be no doubt in the air… I’ll be your hero… Sheltered from the rain…
6.
Sometimes when you feel lonely - sometimes when you feel lost Think about the good times - don’t count the cost We were flowers in the desert - candles in the dark Laughter in the silence - we made our mark With.. All we thought; all we said; all we’ve done At first the shone brightly - we were walking on air We were flying with the eagles - no doubts – no cares You were my touchstone - my reason to be You were my bread and water - everything to me All we thought; all we said; all we’ve done And then the rain set in – shutters came down All was dark and cold; felt I would drown Was there still a chance – a reason to hope Maybe time for that last dance – little did I know All we thought; all we said; all we’ve done A glance in the shadows – a momentary stare A hint of recognition – but as if I wasn’t there… All we thought; all we said; all we’ve done
7.
Find Me 10:39
Intoxication by the alcohol and money I see, I see – find me No liberation from the ropes and the ties that bind me, bind me - find me No emotion as they cry and scrape to feed; to feed - find me No denial except to deny what I see; what I see - find me Find the child within and you’ll see Find that smile from within and you’ll see You’ll see – yeah Find me In the mirror is it man or child you see, you see - find me A cheap reflection of an empty soul that runs through me; through me - find me Misdirection by the smiles and the lies that fool me – more fool me - find me “With age comes wisdom” that’s what they said to me – news to me - find me Find the child within to fly free Find that smile from within and you’ll see You’ll see – yeah Find me Rpt.
8.
Hear me – can you hear me I’ll only stay if you can – if you can Find me – can you find me Just close your eyes, and I’ll be there I’ll be there!
9.
Out of Time 05:43
Out of reach; out of touch Does it really mean that much Out of line; out of time Is there a mountain we should climb Should climb… Out of luck; out of whack Have you really got my back Out of joy; out of hate Or is it simply just too late Too late... Then you touch my hand And I understand Even the angels came to see The love that shone from me - from me Then you pull me down to size The devil in disguise The debts we have to pay Left wondering what to say To say - to say - to say- to say Then I see your eyes And I guess it’s no surprise Even the angels came to see The love that’s gone from me - from me Then I’m crushed by circumstance Given half a chance A damning legacy Let’s float it out to sea To sea - to sea - to sea - to sea

about

This new album was never meant to be a replica of BTOT1 which has it’s own character and almost benefits from the naivety, lack of production and lack of time spent on it. A band of friends having fun and producing something to be proud of.

BTOT2 will have it’s own identity, as I wanted to ‘doff a cap’ to BTOT1 but then take it all to a different level; a different interpretation, if you like. Back behind the orchard tree. Again - friends and family having fun but with more time to work on it; more knowledge to work it up - and more production ‘toys’ to spare.

Finding that balance has perhaps been the most difficult thing about this project- but I think I have achieved it. Time will tell.

Thanks

Rob Cottingham
